Enalapril maleate
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 5 mg once daily. Max: 40 mg. CHF Initially 2.5 mg once daily. Maintenance: 10-20 mg given in a single or 2 divided doses. Max: 40 mg. Renal impairment CrCl >80 mL/min 5 mg/day, >30 mL/min to <80 mL/min 5 mg/day, <30 mL/min 2.5 mg. Dialysis patient 2.5 mg on dialysis days. Elderly >65 yr Initially 2.5 mg.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of angioneurotic edema relating to previous treatment w/ an ACE inhibitor. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Impaired renal or liver function, hemodialysis patients, hyperkalemia, valvular stenosis, surgery/anesth, cough. Lactation. Not recommended in childn.
Adverse Reactions
MI or CVA, cardiac arrest, pulmonary embolism, rhythm disturbances, angina pectoris; anorexia, ileus, pancreatitis, dyspepsia, constipation; neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, bone marrow depression; liver function abnormalities, hepatitis, jaundice; vertigo, depression, confusion, ataxia; bronchospasm/asthma, rhinorrhea; photosensitivity, alopecia, flushing, tinnitus, hearing impairment, glossitis, blurred vision.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics, agents increasing serum K, ganglionic-blocking agents, adrenergic neuron-blocking agents, lithium salts.
