Imipramine HCl
Indications/Uses
Depression. Persistent functional nocturnal enuresis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Depression Adult Initially 25 mg tds increasing up to 150 mg daily if required. Hospitalised patient Up to 300 mg daily. Elderly & adolescent 30-40 mg daily, increasing by 10 mg daily to a max of 100 mg in the elderly. Enuresis which has not responded to other treatment Childn 5-15 yr 10-25 mg 1 hr before bedtime. If there is no response, dosage may be increased up to 50 mg. Treat for 2-4 wk. Treatment can be repeated but should not be given for >2 mth.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concurrent MAOI or w/in 14 days of cessation of MAOIs. 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ thrombosis, angina pectoris, CHF, disorders of cardiac rate, rhythm or conduction, prostatic disorders, urinary retention, glaucoma, hyperactive or agitated patients, epileptics, patients w/ suicidal tendencies. Elderly, childn & those w/ circulatory liability or CV disease. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, mental confusion, allergic effects, tinnitus, postural hypotension, tachycardia, palpitations, arrhythmias, endocrine effects.
Drug Interactions
Block the pharmacologic effects of guanethidine or similar agents.
