Naproxen
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
500 mg/day in divided doses. May be increased to 1,000 mg or decreased depending upon response.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active peptic ulcer, active inflammatory GIT diseases. Aspirin or NSAIDs induced asthma, rhinitis or urticaria syndrome.
Special Precautions
GIT irritation or w/ a history of peptic ulcer or diverticulosis; diminished renal function. Concomitant use w/ hydantoin, sulfonamide or sulfonylurea. Mild peripheral edema. May mask usual signs of infection. Temporarily discontinue therapy before performing adrenal function tests. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <16 yr.
Adverse Reactions
GI bleeding w/ or w/o ulceration. Heart burn, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, diverticulitis; skin rashes; headache, dizziness, drowsiness, depression, fatigue; mild to moderately severe tinnitus. Decreased platelet aggregation & prolonged bleeding time.
Drug Interactions
May displace other drugs from their binding sites. Prolonged prothrombin time w/ bishydroxycoumarin or warfarin.
