Ipratropium Br
Bronchodilator for maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated w/ COPD, including chronic bronchitis, emphysema & asthma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >6 yr Maintenance treatment 2 puff qds. Max total daily dose: 12 puff.
Hypersensitivity to atropine or its derivatives.
Special Precautions
Doses >160 drops daily in adult & adolescent >12 yr, & >80 drops daily in childn ≤12 yr. Immediately discontinue if paradoxical bronchospasm occurs. Patients predisposed to narrow-angle glaucoma. Pre-existing urinary outflow tract obstruction (eg, prostatic hyperplasia, bladder-neck obstruction); cystic fibrosis. Avoid contact w/ eyes. May affect the ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, throat irritation, cough, dry mouth, GI motility disorders (including constipation, diarrhoea & vomiting), nausea & dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Not recommended for chronic co-administration w/ other anti-cholinergics. Bronchodilatory effect may be intensified by β-adrenergics & xanthine prep.
