Indications/Uses
Management of minor wounds, including prevention of infection in burns, cuts, & abrasions. Disinfection for hand hygiene during infectious disease outbreaks; skin before an operation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Wounds, burns, cuts & abrasions Apply the undiluted soln, onto areas to be treated & allow to dry, can be applied several times daily. Should not cover large skin areas (eg, not to cover >10% of the total body surface); max: 14 days. Disinfection of the hands Apply onto the palm & lather w/ hands & fingers for up to 1 min. Rinse thoroughly w/ water (not golden brown-coloured areas require further handwashing). Not recommended for continuous daily use throughout the yr. Should not cover large skin areas (eg, not to cover >10% of the total body surface); max: 14 days. Before surgery Apply to all skin areas w/ special attention to skin folds eg, arm pit, groin & anal area. Avoid pooling both under the patient & in the skin folds. Remove any jewelry before use especially silver articles. Should not cover large skin areas (eg, not to cover >10% of the total body surface); max: 14 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not to be used if the patient has a thyroid disorder; concomitant use of medications eg, hydrogen peroxide, silver containing products, taurolidine or octenidine or mercury containing ingredients eg, thiomersal. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Overactive thyroid (symptoms may include feeling nervous, moody, sleeping difficulty, trouble breathing, fast or irregular heartbeat, feeling hot & sweaty). Increased acid amounts in the blood (symptoms include shortness of breath, confusion & lethargy). Kidney failure (symptoms include urinating difficulty, thirst, dry mouth, & pain in one side of the back).
