Inactivated poliovirus: Type 1 (Mahoney strain) 40 D-antigen u, type 2 (MEF-I strain) 8 D-antigen u, type 3 (Saukett strain) 32 D-antigen u
Indications/Uses
Prevention of poliomyelitis in infants, childn & adults for primary vaccination & booster.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/SC Primary vaccination From 2 mth of age 3 successive inj of 0.5 mL at intervals of 1-2 mth. Booster Administer a 4th dose (1st booster) 1 yr after the 3rd inj. Subsequent boosters: Adult Inj every 10 yr. Childn & adolescent Inj every 5 yr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to neomycin, streptomycin or polymyxin B, or allergic reaction following a previous inj. Postpone vaccination in case of fever or acute disease.
Special Precautions
Patient w/ blood disorders eg, decrease in platelets (thrombocytopenia) or clotting disorders; taking treatment that suppresses the immune responses or presenting w/ chronic immunodeficiency eg, infection w/ AIDS virus (HIV). Do not administer intravascularly.
Adverse Reactions
Urticaria; angioedema, Quincke's oedema; anaphylactic reaction & shock. Inj site pain, redness & hardening, fever ≥38.1°C.
