Indications/Uses
FC tab: Prevention of nausea & vomiting induced by cytostatic therapy. Infusion: Prevention or treatment of nausea & vomiting induced by cytostatic therapy; prevention & treatment of post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cytostatic therapy FC tab Adult Prevention: 1 mg bd or 2 mg once daily during cytostatic therapy. Max: 9 mg/day. IV Adult 3 mg administered either in 15 mL infusion fluid as an IV bolus over not <30 sec or diluted in 20-50 mL infusion fluid & given over 5 min. Prevention: Single dose daily; up to 2 additional doses of 3 mg may be administered w/in 24-hr period. Treatment: Same dose as prevention. Additional doses should be administered at least 10 min apart. Max: 9 mg/day. Childn Prevention: Single dose of 40 mcg/kg (up to 3 mg) as an IV infusion, diluted in 10-30 mL infusion fluid & given over 5 min. Treatment: Same dose as prevention. 1 additional dose of 40 mcg/kg (up to 3 mg) may be administered w/in 24-hr period; should be given at least 10 min apart from the initial infusion. Post-op nausea & vomiting IV Adult Prevention: Single dose of 1 mg diluted to 5 mL & given as a slow IV inj over 30 sec. Complete administration prior to induction of anesth. Treatment: Single dose of 1 mg diluted to 5 mL & given as a slow IV inj over 30 sec.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take up to 1 hr before chemotherapy.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ signs of sub-acute intestinal obstruction; cardiac comorbidities, on cardiotoxic chemotherapy &/or w/ concomitant electrolyte abnormalities. Cross-sensitivity between 5-HT3 antagonists. Should not be taken by patients w/ rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Concomitant use w/ other serotonergic drugs. Pregnancy. Lactation (discontinue during therapy).
Adverse Reactions
Headache; constipation. Elevated hepatic transaminases.
Drug Interactions
Drugs prolonging QT interval &/or arrhythmogenics. Risk of serotonin syndrome w/ other serotonergic drugs.
