Concise Prescribing Info
Per 5 mL Carbocisteine 100 mg, promethazine HCl 2.5 mg
Alleviation of unproductive & irritative coughs, particularly at night in adults & childn ≥2 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 15 mL tds-qds. Childn 12-15 yr 12.5-15 mL tds, 6-12 yr 7.5-12.5 mL tds, 2-5 yr 2.5-5 mL qds.
Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
Not to be used if w/ known allergy to antihistamines or parabens; former or recent agranulocytosis; urination difficulties (due to prostate gland or another cause); glaucoma; in-combination w/ sultopride. Patients w/ history of gastroduodenal ulcers, or those concomitantly taking known GI bleeding-causing medications. Discontinue if GI bleeding occurs. Inform a doctor prior to initiating treatment in the event of stomach or duodenal ulcer; serious heart disease; epilepsy; asthma or GERD in childn; in the elderly (predisposed to constipation, dizziness or drowsiness, presenting w/ prostatic disorders). Refrain from alcoholic beverages or alcohol-containing drugs during treatment. Avoid sun exposure during treatment. DM or low-sugar diet. May cause drowsiness especially at the start of treatment; not recommended to drive or use machines. Long-standing liver or kidney disease. Pregnancy. Not to be taken during lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, reduced alertness (particularly at the start of treatment); memory or concentration disorders, dizziness (especially in patients >65 yr); difficulty in coordinating movements, tremor; confusion, hallucinations; dry mouth, visual disturbances, urinary retention, constipation, heart palpitations, postural hypotension.
Drug Interactions
Sultopride. Avoid other promethazine- & carbocisteine-containing drugs.
ATC Classification
R05CB10 - combinations ; Belongs to the class of mucolytics. Used in the treatment of wet cough.
