Tiotropium Br monohydrate
Maintenance bronchodilator treatment to relieve symptoms of COPD. Add-on maintenance bronchodilator treatment in patients ≥6 yr w/ moderate to severe asthma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
2 puffs once daily at the same time each day.
Hypersensitivity to tiotropium Br, atropine or its derivatives eg, ipratropium or oxitropium.
Special Precautions
Not for the initial treatment of acute episodes of bronchospasm or for the relief of acute symptoms. Not to be used as 1st-line monotherapy for asthma. Patients w/ narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia or bladder-neck obstruction, recent MI <6 mth, unstable or life threatening cardiac arrhythmia or cardiac arrhythmia requiring intervention or change in drug therapy in the past yr, NYHA class III or IV w/in the past yr. Patients w/ known cardiac rhythm disorders; moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl ≤50 mL/min). Avoid contact w/ eyes. Dry mouth associated w/ dental caries in long-term treatment. Contains benzalkonium Cl which may cause wheezing & breathing difficulties. Dizziness or blurred vision may influence the ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid use during pregnancy. Not recommended during breastfeeding. Not recommended for COPD treatment use in childn & adolescents <18 yr. Use for asthma treatment in childn <1 yr.
Drug Interactions
Not recommended to be co-administered w/ other anticholinergic-containing drugs.
