Flavoxate HCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of dysuria, urgency, nocturia, vesical supra-pubic pain, frequency & incontinence in cystitis, prostatitis, urethritis, urethrocystitis & urethrotrigonitis. Relief of vesico-urethral spasms due to catheterisation, cystoscopy or indwelling catheters; prior to cystoscopy or catheterisation; sequelae of surgical intervention of the lower urinary tract.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult including the elderly 200 mg tds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. GI obstructive conditions or ileus, GI haemorrhage, achalasia, urinary retention, glaucoma, myasthenia gravis.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ suspected glaucoma. Concomitantly institute appropriate anti-infective therapy if urinary infection is present. Not recommended in patients w/ rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the total lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients w/ renal impairment. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended for childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, rash, vomiting, dry mouth, dyspepsia, visual impairment, somnolence, fatigue, urinary retention, urticaria, pruritus, erythema, jaundice, liver disorder, abnormal hepatic enzyme, glaucoma, palpitations, confusional state, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic reaction & shock.
