Thymosin α-1 (thymalfasin)
Indications/Uses
Treatment of chronic hepatitis B in patients ≥18 yr w/ compensated liver disease & hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication (serum HBV DNA +ve). Treatment of chronic hepatitis C in combination w/ interferon therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Chronic hepatitis B Monotherapy or in combination w/ interferon: 1.6 mg SC twice a wk for 6-12 mth. Patient <40 kg 40 mcg/kg. Chronic hepatitis C Combination w/ interferon: 1.6 mg SC twice a wk for 12 mth. Patient <40 kg 40 mcg/kg.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity to thymosin α-1. Immunosuppressed transplant patient.
Special Precautions
Monitor liver function periodically.
