Supportive Therapy
General Measures
- Adequate fluid intake
- Warm saline gargle (¼-½ tsp of salt per 8 oz glass of warm water)
- Elimination of close contact with family members or visitors if patient has been confirmed to have group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus (GABHS)
- Remain at home until 24 hours of antibiotic therapy has been received
- There are not enough studies to support use of acupuncture, probiotics, dietary supplements and herbal treatments for symptomatic tonsillopharyngitis
