Water hydration. Management of severe NaCl depletion which may occur in the presence of heart failure or renal impairment or during surgery post-op; hyponatremia & hypochloremia resulting from administration of Na-free fluids during fluid & electrolyte therapy; in the treatment of severe NaCl depletion resulting from excess sweating, vomiting, diarrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Initially 100 mL given over a 1-hr period.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Increased, normal or only slightly decreased serum electrolyte conc.
Special Precautions
Evaluate changes in fluid balance, electrolyte conc & acid-base balance. CHF or other edematous or Na-retaining conditions, severe renal insufficiency, liver cirrhosis & receiving corticosteroids or corticotropin. Geriatric or post-op patients. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Fever, infection at the site of inj, venous thrombosis or phlebitis. Hypervolemia or hypernatremia.
