Indications/Uses
Renal lithiasis & hypocitrauria, chronic formers of Ca oxalate, Ca phosphate calculi. Uric acid lithiasis alone or accompanied by Ca lithiasis. Tubular acidosis w/ Ca nephrolithiasis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
30-60 mEq (3-6 tab) divided into 3-4 doses daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take 30 min after meals. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush/dilute.
Contraindications
Renal insufficiency, persistent alkaline urinary infections, urinary tract obstruction, hyperpotassemia, adrenal insufficiency, resp or metabolic alkalosis, active peptic ulcer, intestinal obstruction, anticholinergic therapy & slow gastric emptying.
Special Precautions
Hyperpotassemia may appear in patients w/ altered K excretion mechanism. Renal insufficiency.
Adverse Reactions
Slight GI disorder.
Drug Interactions
K-sparing diuretics eg, triamterene, spironolactone, amyloride.
