Clindamycin HCl
Indications/Uses
Resp tract infections (pneumonia); skin & soft tissue infections; acute & chronic osteomyelitis; bacteremia (primary anaerobic); intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis); infections of the female pelvis & genital tract.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 300 mg 6 hrly. Serious infection Increase to 600 mg 6 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ a full glass of water & in an upright position.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to lincomycin or clindamycin.
Special Precautions
Elderly & patients w/ GI disease, particularly w/ history of colitis. Perform periodic blood counts & liver function tests in prolonged therapy. Renal insufficiency. Do not administer to neonates <30 days old. Monitor WBC count & liver function in childn. Concomitant use w/ erythromycin. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Transient leukopenia or neutropenia. Pseudomembranous colitis.
Drug Interactions
Antagonism may occur w/ erythromycin.
