Lauromacrogol 400 (polidocanol)
Indications/Uses
As liqd for sclerotherapy of all types of varicose veins & as foam for sclerotherapy of small varicose veins.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage depending on varices size & may be increased up to 2 mL/inj.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ acute severe disease, bedridden or unable to walk, arterial occlusive disease Fontaine stage III & IV, thromboembolic diseases, thrombosis eg, patients born w/ a tendency for blood clots or w/ several risk factors eg, use of hormonal contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy, overwt, smoking, extended periods of immobility; & known symptomatic patent foramen ovale.
Special Precautions
Do not inj intra-arterially as severe necrosis can occur which may necessitate limb amputation. Feverish states; bronchial asthma or marked predisposition to allergies; very poor general state of health; occlusive disease Fontaine stage II for spider veins; leg oedema; inflammatory skin disease in the treatment area; symptoms of a blockage in the small blood vessels & capilliaries eg, due to diabetes (microangiopathy) or sensory impairment (neuropathy); reduced mobility. History of impaired eyesight, mood disorders or nerve dysfunction (visual, psychiatric or neurological symptoms) after previous foam sclerotherapy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Neovascularization, haematoma; hyperpigmentation, ecchymosis; pain at the inj site (short-term), thrombosis at the inj site.
Drug Interactions
May enhance the effect on CVS w/ other local anaesth.
