Allopurinol
Indications/Uses
Chronic primary & secondary gout, urate nephropathy, renal atonia, hyperuricemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
100-200 mg bid or tid.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Acute attack of gout. Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Renal or hepatic dysfunction. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rash (maculopapular or pruritic); Stevens-Johnson syndrome, other allergic reaction. Peripheral neuritis, alopecia, GI upset.
Drug Interactions
Oral anticoagulant, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, mercaptopurine.
ATC Classification
M04AA01 - allopurinol ; Belongs to the class of preparations inhibiting uric acid production. Used in the treatment of gout.
