Amoxicillin trihydrate
Indications/Uses
Commonly occurring bacterial infections, resp tract, GIT, GUT, skin & soft tissue infections, H. pylori eradication in peptic ulcer.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250-500 mg tid. Childn ≤10 yr 125-250 mg tid. H. pylori-related ulcer 1 g bid w/ omeprazole 40 mg daily & clarithromycin 500 mg bid for 7 days, or 750 mg-1 g bid w/ omeprazole 40 mg daily & metronidazole 400 mg tid for 7 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Infectious mononucleosis. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, urticaria, pruritus.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid prolongs blood level of amoxicillin. Allopurinol increases the likelihood of allergic skin reactions.
