Amlodipine besylate
Indications/Uses
HTN, chronic stable angina, & confirmed or suspected vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina) as monotherapy or in combination w/ other antihypertensive or other antianginal drugs.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN 5 mg once daily. Max: 10 mg once daily. Elderly or patients w/ hepatic insufficiency 2.5 mg once daily. Chronic stable or vasospastic angina 5-10 mg.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ CHF & hepatic function impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Peripheral edema, abdominal pain, flushing, headache & somnolence. Dizziness, palpitations, fatigue, rash, pruritus, male sexual dysfunction, nausea, dyspepsia, muscle cramps, weakness, dyspnea, pulmonary edema.
Drug Interactions
May produce additive hypotension w/ anesth, hydrocarbon inhalations. Reduced antihypertensive effects w/ NSAIDs & sympathomimetics. Excessive hypotension may be produced w/ nifedipine. Increase BP w/ estrogens. May potentiate antihypertensive effects w/ hypotension-producing drugs. Potential neurotoxicity w/ lithium. May change unbound serum conc of highly protein bound drugs.
