Tramadol HCl
Indications/Uses
Moderate to severe acute or chronic pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult & adolescent >14 yr 50-100 mg/day. Max: <400 mg/day. Amp Adult & adolescent >14 yr 50-100 mg by slow IV, IM or SC. If required, may administer 50 mg ½-1 hr after 1st dose. Max: 400 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Acute intoxication w/ alcohol, hypnotics, analgesics or psychotropic drugs. Concomitant or w/in 14 days of MAOIs.
Special Precautions
Renal or hepatic impairment, history of epilepsy or susceptibility to seizures, impaired consciousness of uncertain origin, shock, disorders of resp centre or function, increased intracranial pressure due to head injury or brain disease. Dependence, patients predisposed to drug abuse. Childn <12 yr, elderly. Pregnancy & lactation. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, vertigo, dry mouth, sweating, headache, motor weakness, bradycardia, tachycardia, palpitations, orthostatic hypotension, hypothermia, restlessness, mood & libido changes, micturition difficulties, increased intracranial pressure.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol, MAOIs, lithium, TCA & other CNS depressants, SSRIs, carbamazepine, cimetidine, drugs that lower seizure threshold, CYP2D6 inhibitors.
