Indications/Uses
DM in adults, adolescents & childn ≥4 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Administer by SC or continuous SC pump infusion.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Administer w/in 15 min before or immediately after meals.
Special Precautions
Transfer of patient to a new type or brand of insulin. Hypoglycemia.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycemia. Inj site reactions & local hypersensitivity reactions. Lipodystrophy (rare).
Drug Interactions
Effect intensified by oral antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, disopyramide, fibrates, fluoxetine, MAOIs, pentoxifylline, propoxyphene, salicylates & sulfonamide antibiotics. Effect reduced by corticosteroids, danazol, diazoxide, diuretics, glucagon, INH, phenothiazine derivatives, somatropin, sympathomimetic agents, thyroid hormones, estrogens, progestins, PIs & atypical antipsychotics. Effect may either be potentiated or weakened by β-blockers, clonidine, lithium salts or alcohol.
