Indications/Uses
Essential HTN; renal disease, both early & late stage, in patients w/ HTN & type II DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initial & maintenance dose: 150 mg once daily. May be increased to 300 mg or other antihypertensive agents can be added.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, lactation. Concomitant use w/ aliskiren-containing drugs in patients w/ diabetes or moderate to severe renal impairment. Concomitant use w/ ACE inhibitors in patients w/ diabetic nephropathy.
Special Precautions
Increased risk of hypotension, hyperkalemia & changes in renal function in concomitant use w/ ACE inhibitors or aliskiren. Patients who are vol- & Na-depleted by vigorous diuretic therapy, dietary salt restriction, diarrhoea or vomiting. Renovascular HTN, renal impairment & kidney transplantation. Hyperkalemia. Aortic or mitral stenosis, obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Primary aldosteronism. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, significant increases in plasma creatine kinase, orthostatic dizziness & hypotension, musculoskeletal pain.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics & other antihypertensive agents, K supplements & K-sparing diuretics, lithium, NSAIDs.
