Indications/Uses
Organ transplantation, chronic active hepatitis, therapy of resistant cases of RA, SLE, dermatomyositis, pemphigus & pemphigoides, pyodermia gangraenosa.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Post-transplantation 1-4 mg/kg/day. Chronic active hepatitis 1-1.5 mg/kg/day. Other conditions 2-2.5 mg/kg/day. RA Lower doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken w/ or after meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Special Precautions
Severe hepatic or renal impairment. Pregnancy, elderly (monitor white cell count).
Adverse Reactions
Bone marrow depression, hematopoiesis, macrocytosis, nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions, cholestatic jaundice.
Drug Interactions
Metabolism inhibited by allopurinol. Reduces the neuromuscular blockade of curare, tubocurarine but potentiates that of succinylcholine. Inhibits anticoagulant effect of warfarin. Avoid concomitant administration w/ penicillamine, co-trimoxazole, captopril.
