Trihexyphenidyl HCl
Indications/Uses
All forms of parkinsonism. Drug-induced extrapyramidal disorders.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 1-2 mg, increase by 2 mg increments at interval of 3-5 days. Usual dose: 6-10 mg/day. Max dose: 12-15 mg/day in 3-4 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Best taken w/ meals. Take before meals if dry mouth occurs or after meals if drooling/nausea occurs. Take at the same time each day.
Contraindications
Closed-angle glaucoma, pyloric or duodenal obstruction, stenosing peptic ulcers, bladder neck obstructions, achalasia, myasthenia gravis.
Special Precautions
Co-administration w/ atropine-like drugs to chronically ill patients, alcoholics, patients w/ CNS disease, or those doing manual labor in a hot environment. CV disease, HTN, prostatic hyperplasia, liver or kidney disorder, GI or GUT obstructive disease.
Adverse Reactions
Tachycardia, confusion, agitation, euphoria, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, nervousness, delusions, hallucination, paranoia, dry skin, rash, constipation, urinary retention, weakness, mydriasis, blurred vision.

N04AA01 - trihexyphenidyl ; Belongs to the class of tertiary amines anticholinergic agents. Used in the management of Parkinson's disease.
