Bicalutamide
Indications/Uses
Advanced prostatic carcinoma in combination w/ luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) analogues or surgical castration.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult men including elderly 1 tab once daily at the same time each day usually in the morning or evening, started concomitantly w/ LHRH analogue or surgical castration.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Female & childn. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Monitor hepatic function. Moderate & severe hepatic impairment. Patient concomitantly using substances metabolised predominantly by CYP 3A4. Frequently & regularly monitor prothrombin time in concomitant use w/ coumarin anticoagulants. Galactose intolerance. Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
Adverse Reactions
Hot flashes, pain; back, pelvic & abdominal pain; constipation, weakness, infection, nausea, peripheral edema, dyspnea, diarrhea, nocturia, hematuria, anemia.
Drug Interactions
Drugs w/ narrow therapeutic index. Terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, ciclosporin, Ca channel blockers. May increase plasmatic levels w/ products containing ketoconazole or cimetidine. May displace coumarin anticoagulants eg, warfarin from protein-binding sites.
