Description
Each tablet contains clotrimazole 500 mg.
Action
Pharmacology: Candinox 1 inhibits or kills many fungi, including yeasts and dermatophyte. It is also active against Trichomonas vaginalis, some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Pharmacokinetics: Clotrimazole is an imidazole derivative. About 3-10% of an intravaginal dose of the drug reaches systemic circulation, principally as metabolites.
Indications/Uses
For the treatment of vulvovaginal infections caused by fungi, mostly Candida in pregnant (second and third trimesters only) and nonpregnant women. May also be used occasionally for symptomatic relief of the protozoal infection trichomoniasis when other drugs are contraindicated.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Uncomplicated and vulvovaginitis and unless otherwise prescribed by the physician; insert 1 tablet intravaginal once daily, preferably at bedtime.
Complicated vulvovaginitis, recurrent or severe infections should consult a physician.
In some cases, insert 1 tablet once daily for 2 days may be used.
It should be treated in the non-menstrual period.
In women who have recurrent infections, it will benefit from treatment if sexual partner who has balanitis apply with a topical antifungal cream.
Reports in pregnant women, given the medicine during the second and third trimester, have not shown the causes adverse effects on the fetus.
Well-controlled studies in the first trimester have not been done, and seek their physician's advice before using the medication.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the drug.
Special Precautions
Mild burning has occasionally occurred; rarely itching and vulval irritation have been reported. If these reactions occur, the medicine should be discontinued.
In case of self-medication, if vulvovaginal candidiasis does not improve within 3 days, or the condition persists beyond 7 days, or recurrent within 2 months, the patient should consult a physician.
Use in Pregnancy: In pregnant women, the use of medicine must be under the supervision of the physician.
