Indications/Uses
UTI (both uncomplicated & complicated infections, including pyelonephritis); skin & skin structure infections, moderate to severe pneumonia, empiric therapy for febrile neutropenia, intra-abdominal infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >40 kg Mild to moderate UTI 0.5-1 g IV 12 hrly for 7-10 days. Severe UTI/skin & skin structure infections 2 g IV 12 hrly for 10 days. Moderate to severe pneumonia 1-2 g IV 12 hrly for 10 days. Empiric therapy for febrile neutropenia 2 g IV 8 hrly for 7 days. Intra-abdominal infections 2 g IV 12 hrly for 7-10 days (combined w/ metronidazole). Childn >2 mth ≤40 kg 50 mg/kg/dose. Pneumonia, UTI, skin & skin structure infections 12 hrly for 7-10 days. Severe infections, empiric therapy for febrile neutropenia 8 hrly for 7-10 days.
Contraindications
Cross hypersensitivity to penicillin, cephalosporins or other β-lactam antibiotics.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment, superinfections, pseudomembranous colitis.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic skin reaction, GI effects, headache, fever, vaginitis.
