Ciprofloxacin HCl monohydrate
Indications/Uses
UTI, GIT infection, resp tract infection, bone & joints infections, skin & soft tissue infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Uncomplicated UTI, gastroenteritis 250 mg bid. Complicated UTI, upper resp tract infections 500 mg bid. Bone & joints infection, lower resp tract infection, severe infection 750 mg bid. Acute gonorrhea 250 mg as a single dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to minimise GI discomfort. Do not take w/ antacids, Fe or dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones. Infants & prepubertal childn. Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Renal or hepatic impairment, epilepsy, CNS damage or CNS disorders.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, flatulence, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, skin rash, crystalluria (high doses).
Drug Interactions
Absorption reduced by mineral containing antacids. Excretion delayed by probenecid. Concomitant intake w/ NSAIDs can lead to convulsions. May potentiate effects of oral anticoagulants, phenytoin, theophylline.
