Clarithromycin
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp, skin & soft tissue infections. Disseminated or localized mycobacterial infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250 mg bid. Severe infections: 500 mg bid. Mycobacterial infections 500 mg bid. May be increased to 1,000 mg bid. Duration: 6-14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to macrolides. Concomitant use w/ terfenadine, astemizole, triazolam, midazolam & cisapride.
Special Precautions
Impaired hepatic function, moderate & severe renal impairment. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain & headache; allergic reactions; transient CNS effects.
Drug Interactions
Theophylline, carbamazepine, digitoxin, warfarin, ergot alkaloids, triazolam, midazolam, cyclosporin & zidovudine.
