Concise Prescribing Info
Hormone replacement therapy for the treatment of climacteric complaints at menopause or following ovariectomy. Prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply to the skin on the trunk or buttock once wkly.
Pregnancy, lactation; patients w/ undiagnosed vag bleeding, suspected or existing breast cancer, malignancies influenced by sex hormones, benign or malignant liver tumors, DVT or pulmonary embolism. Suspected adenoma of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ increased risk of thrombosis; fibroids of the womb, endometriosis, liver or gallbladder disease, diabetes, HTN, jaundice in pregnancy, chloasma, otosclerosis, epilepsy, porphyria, chorea minor, asthma, migraine, benign breast disease. SLE. Surgery/hospitalization.
Adverse Reactions
Migraine, severe headaches, vision or hearing disturbances, phlebitis. Skin irritation at the site of application; breakthrough bleeding & spotting, breast tenderness, enlargement, increased size of fibroids of the womb. GI disturbances, cholestatic jaundice. Chloasma. Alteration in body wt, worsening of porphyria, edema, changes in libido, muscle cramps.
Drug Interactions
OC; antiepileptic drugs, (hydantoins, barbiturates, primidone, carbamazepine); anti-TB drugs (rifampicin). Alcohol.
