Clindamycin (Cap: HCl; Inj: Phosphate)
Indications/Uses
Treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of strep, staph, pneumococci & anaerobic bacteria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Complicated or severe infections 2,400-2,700 mg/day in 2, 3 or 4 equal doses. Less complicated infections 1,200-1,800 mg/day in 3 or 4 equal doses. Childn >1 mth 20-40 mg/kg/day in 3 or 4 equal doses. Neonates (<1 mth) 15-20 mg/kg/day in 3 or 4 equal doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ a full glass of water & in an upright position.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin.
Special Precautions
History of GI disease, severe renal or liver impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea occasionally w/ acute colitis (discontinue).
Drug Interactions
Neuromuscular-blocking agents, opioids, parasympathomimetics, erythromycin.
