Indications/Uses
Treatment & prevention of acute attacks of gout.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Start treatment at the 1st warning of an acute attack. 1-2 tab initially, followed by 1 tab every 1-2 hr until pain is relieved, or nausea, vomiting or diarrhea develops.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Serious GI, renal, hepatic or cardiac disorders.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly & debilitated patients. Dose reduction in case of weakness, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Prolonged use may cause bone marrow depression w/ agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia & aplastic anemia. Peripheral neuritis & depilation. Myopathy.
Drug Interactions
Vit B12, CNS depressants & sympathomimetic agents.
ATC Classification
M04AC01 - colchicine ; Belongs to the class of preparations with no effect on uric acid metabolism. Used in the treatment of gout.
