Mefenamic acid
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of RA (including Still's disease), OA; muscular, traumatic & dental pain; headaches of most etiology, post-op & postpartum pain; primary dysmenorrhea. Menorrhagia; premenstrual syndrome. Relief of pyrexia which is not caused by dengue virus in ped patients >6 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 500 mg, followed by 250 mg every 6 hr, as needed. Max duration: 1 wk.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
GI ulceration. Renal & hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Asthmatics, hypersensitivity to NSAIDs. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, GI disturbances & bleeding, peptic ulcer, hypersensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Oral anticoagulants.
