Clarithromycin
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp infections, skin & skin structure infections. Disseminated mycobacterial infections due to Mycobacterium avium or Mycobacterium intracellulare, H. pylori infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual dose: 250 mg bid for 7 days. Severe infections 500 mg bid for 6-14 days. H. pylori eradication 500 mg bid-tid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity to clarithromycin & other macrolides.
Special Precautions
Impaired hepatic & renal function.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain & stomatitis.
Drug Interactions
Theophylline, carbamazepine, warfarin, digoxin, ritonavir.
