Indications/Uses
Generalized epilepsy (clonic, tonic, tonic-clonic, absence, myoclonic or atonic seizures). Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Treatment of partial epilepsy: Partial seizures w/ or w/o secondary generalization. To control status epilepticus: Concomitant use w/ other anticonvulsants as appropriate. Treatment & prevention of mania associated w/ bipolar disorders.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Oral Initially 10-15 mg/kg/day increasing at 2-3 day intervals to reach optimum dosage in about 1 wk. Adult 20-30 mg/kg/day. Childn 30 mg/kg/day. EC tab & oral soln may be given bid. CR tab allows once daily administration. IV inj Initially 15 mg/kg by slow IV inj over 3 min followed by infusion at 1-2 mg/kg/hr & adjusted according to clinical response.
Administration
Should be taken with food: EC & CR tab: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Special Precautions
Fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting. Pregnancy.
