Doxycycline
Indications/Uses
UTI, resp tract, GIT & skin infections, acute bacterial cholecystitis & pericholecystitis, gonorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 2 cap for 1st 24 hr, then 1 cap daily. Childn 4 mg/kg body wt for 1st 24 hr then 2 mg/kg body wt daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ a full glass of water & remain upright for at least 30 min. Avoid taking w/ dairy products.
Contraindications
Porphyria. Pregnancy. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Lactation. Myasthenia gravis.
Adverse Reactions
GI upsets, photosensitivity. Rarely, bone marrow depression. May cause permanent teeth discolouration in childn & exacerbate existing SLE.
Drug Interactions
Interferes w/ bactericidal action of penicillins & cephalosporins.
