Amoxycillin trihydrate
Indications/Uses
Resp tract, GUT, ENT, skin & soft tissue, GIT infections including typhoid & paratyphoid, gonorrhoea, meningitis & dental abscess. Prophylaxis of endocarditis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250-500 mg 8 hrly. Enteric fever & other GIT infections 4 g daily in divided doses for 14-21 days. Gonorrhea Single dose of 3 g plus 1 g probenecid. Max: 6 g/day. Childn 2-10 yr ½ adult dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Infectious mononucleosis.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Renal impairment, lymphatic leukemia.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, blood disorders, superinfections.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid prolongs plasma t½ of amoxicillin. Allopurinol increases incidence of skin rashes. Reduces effectiveness of OC.
