Indications/Uses
Ethionamide is a secondary anti-TB agent, to be used concurrently w/ other anti-TB drugs when therapy w/ primary agent is ineffective or contraindicated. Especially for the treatment of drug-resistant TB, failure of retreatment regimen, chronic cases & multi-drug-resistant-TB.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 0.5-1 g/day in divided doses. Childn 15-20 mg/kg daily. Max: 1 g daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take at mealtimes.
Contraindications
Severe hypersensitivity, severe hepatic damage.
Special Precautions
Psychiatric illness. DM. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI effects, peripheral &/or optic neuritis, psychic disturbances, postural hypotension, jaundice, hepatitis, thrombocytopenia, rash, stomatitis, gynaecomastia, impotence.
