Felodipine
Indications/Uses
Alone or in combination w/ other class of antihypertensives in the management of HTN & angina pectoris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 5 mg daily. Adjust dose at intervals of not <2 wk. May be decreased to 2.5 mg/day or increased to 10 mg/day. Maintenance: 2.5-10 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take either w/o food or w/ a light meal. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other Ca channel blockers.
Special Precautions
Heart failure, impaired liver function, peripheral edema. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, peripheral edema, tachycardia, flushing, dizziness, gingival hyperplasia, paresthesia, syncope, urticaria, vomiting.
Drug Interactions
CYP450 3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, grapefruit juice, cimetidine) may increase plasma conc. Bioavailability reduced by carbamazepine.
