Indications/Uses
Adjunctive therapy to diet for the reduction of LDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides & apolipoprotein B & increase HDL-cholesterol in adult patients w/ primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson types IIa & IIb). Adjunctive therapy to diet for treatment of adult patients w/ hypertriglyceridemia (Fredrickson type IV & V hyperlipidemia). Adjuvant to diet in combination w/ a statin to reduce triglycerides & increase HDL-C in patients w/ mixed dyslipidemia & CHD or CHD risk equiv who are on optimal statin therapy to achieve their LDL-C goal.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Recommended dose: 160 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hepatic dysfunction including primary biliary cirrhosis & unexplained persistent liver function abnormalities; severe renal dysfunction & preexisting gallbladder disease.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment (CrCl <50 mL/min).
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, transaminases elevations, allergic skin reactions, muscular pains.
Drug Interactions
Potentiates action of anticoagulants, cyclosporin, sulfonylureas, bile acid sequestrants.
