Fluticasone propionate
Indications/Uses
Evohaler Prophylactic management of asthma. Management of COPD when used in combination w/ long-acting bronchodilator. Nebule Prophylactic management in severe asthma. Treatment of acute exacerbations of asthma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Evohaler Asthma Adult & childn >16 yr 100-1,000 mcg. Mild: 100-250 mcg; moderate: 250-500 mcg; severe: 500-1,000 mcg. Childn ≥4 yr 50-200 mcg, 1-4 yr 100 mcg. COPD Adult 500 mcg. Nebule Adult & adolescent >16 yr 500-2,000 mcg. Childn 4-16 yr 1,000 mcg. All doses to be given bid.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not for acute attacks. Monitor height of childn receiving prolonged treatment. Systemic corticosteroid effects (ie, Cushing's syndrome, Cushingoid features, adrenal suppression, growth retardation, decrease in bone mineral density, cataract & glaucoma). Monitor adrenocortical function when transferring from oral steroid to inhaled therapy. W/draw systemic therapy gradually. History of DM. Active or quiescent pulmonary TB. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Mouth & throat candidiasis. Pneumonia in COPD patients (evohaler), hoarseness, contusions.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma conc w/ ritonavir. Increased systemic exposure w/ potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole).
