Quinine sulfate
Indications/Uses
P. falciparum malaria resistant to chloroquine or other antimalarials.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Suppressive 1-2 tab daily in divided doses. Therapy Adult 2 tab tid. Childn 12-15 yr 4-6 tab, 7-11 yr 2-3 tab, 4-6 yr 1-1½ tab, 1-3 yr 1 tab daily in divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Haemolysis. Tinnitus. Optic neuritis.
Special Precautions
Atrial fibrillation, serious heart disease, myasthenia gravis. G6PD deficiency. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Tinnitus, headache, nausea, disturbed vision, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vertigo, fever, pruritus, rashes, hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
Digoxin, anticoagulant.
