Deferiprone
Indications/Uses
Fe overload in thalassemia patients who cannot use deferoxamine.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn 75 mg/kg body wt/day in 2-4 divided doses up to 100 mg/kg body wt in divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Neutropenia or agranulocytosis, pregnancy, lactation. Patients taking drugs associated w/ neutropenia/agranulocytosis.
Special Precautions
Monitor WBC. Serum ferritin <1,000 ng/mL, hepatic &/or renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Severe neutropenia or agranulocytosis, reddish brown color of urine, joint pain & swelling, increase in liver enzymes, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting & increased appetite.

Vit C.
