Paclitaxel
Indications/Uses
Metastatic carcinoma of the ovary & breast, non-small cell lung carcinoma, Kaposi's sarcoma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
135-175 mg/m2 IV in over 3 hr every 3 wk for metastatic ovarian cancer after failure of 1st line chemotherapy & 175 mg/m2 IV over 3 hr every 3 wk for metastatic breast cancer. Administer 20 mg oral dexamethasone 12 & 6 hr prior to Intaxel therapy & cimetidine 300 mg IV or ranitidine 50 mg IV 30 min prior to therapy & diphenhydramine 50 mg IV 30 min prior to therapy.
Contraindications
Baseline neutropenia (<1,500 cells/mm3). Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Cardiac conduction abnormalities.
Adverse Reactions
Alopecia, GI disturbances, bone marrow suppression, peripheral neuropathy, hypersensitivity, hypotension, bradycardia, ECG abnormalities. Rarely, cardiac conduction abnormalities, grand mal seizure.
