Enalapril maleate
Indications/Uses
HTN, particularly indicated in combination w/ diuretics & digitalis for treatment of severe CHF not responding to other measures. As adjuvant therapy in moderate & sometimes mild CHF.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 5 mg in the morning as single dose. May double the dose at intervals of 1-2 wk to a max of 40 mg/day. CHF Initially 2.5 mg daily. May be increased at wkly intervals up to 5-10 mg bid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Allergy to enalapril or other ACE inhibitors.
Special Precautions
Salt/vol-depleted patient, surgery.
Adverse Reactions
Neutropenia, angioedema, cough, taste disturbance, rash, proteinuria, hypotension, fatigue, headache.
Drug Interactions
Potentiated by hydrochlorothiazide, propranolol, timolol & α-methyldopa. NSAIDs. Immunosuppressive agents.
