Raltegravir
Indications/Uses
In combination w/ other antiretrovirals for the treatment of HIV-1 infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
400 mg bid in combination w/ other antiretroviral agents.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Concomitant use w/ Al & Mg antacids & strong uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 1A1 inducers eg, rifampin. Inflammatory response may develop to indolent or residual opportunistic infections during initial phase of therapy. Grave's disease. Discontinue use if signs or symptoms of severe skin reactions or hypersensitivity develops. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, nausea, headache, nasopharyngitis, fatigue, upper resp tract infection, bronchitis, pyrexia, vomiting. Influenza, arthralgia, back pain, dizziness, abnormal dreams, anxiety, depression, insomnia, cough, rash.
Drug Interactions
Reduced plasma conc w/ potent inducers of UGT 1A1 eg, rifampin. Increased plasma levels w/ potent UGT1A1 inhibitors eg, atazanavir; drugs known to increase gastric pH (eg, omeprazole). Decreased plasma levels w/ Al- & Mg-containing antacids.
