Kanamycin acid sulfate
Infections caused by susceptible organisms (Staphylococcus, Gonococcus, E.coli, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Proteus sp., Entero) of skin, mucous membrane, lymph nodes, bones, resp tracts, GUT, pulmonary TB & extra-pulmonary TB.
Dosage/Direction for Use
TB Adult 2 g/day IM in 2 divided doses twice a wk or 1 g once daily for 3 days a wk. Elderly >60 yr 0.5-0.75 g as a single dose. Childn Lower dose required.  Other infections Adult 1-2 g daily IM in 1-2 divided doses. Childn 30-50 mg/kg body wt daily IM in 1-2 divided doses.
Hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides antibiotics eg, streptomycin, kanamycin, gentamicin, fradiomycin, or bacitracin.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ or history of hearing impairment caused by Streptomycin or any other hearing impairment. Renal impairment. Orally, poorly nourished or parenterally nourished. Vit K deficiency may develop. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity. Rarely, shock. Vit K & vit B deficiency. Headache or numbness of the lips. Hypersensitivity.
Drug Interactions
May aggrevate renal toxicity of blood substitutes eg, dextran. Resp depression may occur w/ anesth or muscle relaxants. Renal & auditory toxicities may be aggravated w/ ethacrynic acid or furosemide.
