Hyoscine butylbromide
Indications/Uses
Reduces smooth muscle tone. Adjunct to treatment of peptic ulcer, GI spasm, spasm of urinary & biliary tract, dysmenorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
20 mg as IM/IV or SC inj repeated after 30 min, if necessary.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, intestinal atony, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, acute hemorrhage, tachycardia secondary to cardiac insufficiency, chronic lung disease.
Special Precautions
Impaired liver or kidney function. Patients w/ undiagnosed & untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, CAD, tachyarrhythmias, heart failure, HTN. Childn & infants.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylactic shock/reactions, dyspnoea, skin reactions & other hypersensitivity reactions, accomodation disorders, mydriasis, increased IOP, tachycardia, decreased BP, dizziness & flushing, dry mouth, dyshidrosis, impaired micturition, coma, hallucinations, dystonia, confusion, agitation & dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Amantadine, tri- & TCAs, quinidine, antihistamines, antipsychotics, disopyramide, phenothiazines, belladonna alkaloids, other anticholinergics (eg, tiotropium, ipratropium, atropine-like compd), metoclopramide.
