Ketoconazole
Indications/Uses
Superficial & deep mycoses. Maintenance to prevent recurrence in systemic mycotic infections & chronic mucocutaneous candidosis. Prophylaxis of mycotic infections in patients w/ reduced host defenses eg, cancer patients, organ transplant patients, burns.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Vag candidosis 1 tab bid (morning & evening) for 5-7 days. Oral thrush 1 tab once daily for 10 days. Mycoses of the skin & hair, aspergillosis, systemic candidosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis 1 tab once daily for 1-2 mth. Onychomycosis & chronic mucocutaneous candidosis 1 tab once daily for up to 6 mth. Childn 50 or 100 mg once daily, depending on body wt (ie, approx 3 mg/kg).
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea & itching.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ agents that reduce gastric secretion (anticholinergics, antacids, H2-antagonists).
