Indications/Uses
Lasix Listed in Dosage. Lasix High Dose Threatened & already existing acute renal failure, chronic & terminal renal insufficiency, nephrotic syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Lasix tab Cardiac, hepatic & renal oedema, oedema due to burns, mild to moderate HTN Adult ½-1-2 tab daily, maintenance: ½-1 tab daily. Childn 2 mg/kg body wt, max 40 mg/day. Amp 20 mg/2 mL Cardiac, hepatic & renal oedema; acute cardiac insufficiency, especially in pulmonary oedema; reduced urinary output due to gestoses; supportive measures in brain oedema; to support forced diuresis in poisoning Adult & childn ≥15 yr 20-40 mg. Infant & childn <15 yr 1 mg/kg body wt, max 20 mg/day. To be given by IV or IM. Lasix High Dose tab Chronic renal insufficiency in pre-dialysis stage w/ fluid retention & HTN Initially 120 mg/day increasing to 250-1,500 mg/day. Terminal renal insufficiency 250-1,500 mg/day. Nephrotic syndrome Initially 120 mg/day then increasing to 250-500 mg/day. Acute renal failure 250-1,000 mg/day. Amp 250 mg/25 mL Acute renal failure Initially 40 mg by slow IV increasing to 50-100 mg/hr. Max: 1,500 mg/day. Chronic renal insufficiency in pre-dialysis stage w/ fluid retention & HTN Initially 0.1 mg/min.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Swallow whole w/ sufficient amount of liqd. May be divided along the score line.
Contraindications
Acute renal failure w/ anuria, hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypovolemia.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Electrolyte disturbances, dehydration & hypovolemia, increased blood creatinine & triglyceride. Hypotension including orthostatic hypotension (for IV infusion).
Drug Interactions
May increase risk of ototoxicity w/ aminoglycosides, cisplatin, sucralfate, lithium salts, diuretics, risperidone, NSAIDs, phenytoin, corticosteroids, carbenoxolone, digitalis, probenecid, methotrexate, antidiabetic drugs, curare-type muscle relaxants, nephrotoxic drugs & cyclosporine.
